SAXAVORD SPACEPORT

OPENING THE UK’S GATEWAY TO ORBIT

THE
OPPORTUNITY

Against a backdrop of rapid growth in the spaceport category, SaxaVord is the UK’s first licensed vertical launch spaceport.

After a remarkable journey spanning over eight years and with a full manifest of upcoming launches, SaxaVord was ready to open.

To celebrate this key milestone, SaxaVord commissioned a patch to highlight the site’s unique location on the island of Unst, while building anticipation for its pivotal role as the UK’s gateway to orbit.

During research, we discovered key artefacts from the spaceport’s WW2-era predecessor, RAF Skaw.

Run as a radar station, RAF Skaw regularly published a journal – aptly named ‘The Outpost’ – which featured the Latin motto ‘Ne plus ultra’. No more beyond.

Building the patch around this unique piece of oral heritage was key to creating something that not only captures the remoteness and drama of the site, but speaks to the exemplary spirit of the people who have worked there throughout its vibrant history.

SOLUTION

The emblem marks the latest chapter in the peninsula’s storied history.

It celebrates a fresh generation of visionaries unlocking the site’s potential and venturing beyond.

“Working with Ed was a smooth and flawless process, he immediately grasped what we were after and worked within a very short timescale to deliver a mission patch that encapsulates everything we wanted, in a way that will inspire and resonate with our audience. I see this as just the start of a productive partnership, as SaxaVord accelerates its brand development to lead the UK in the vertical launch of small satellites.”
